Seattle Seahawks Consider Grant Udinski for Offensive Coordinator
In Seattle, fans and analysts alike are buzzing about the Seattle Seahawks’ latest coaching search. The team is looking to fill its offensive coordinator position, and they have requested to interview Grant Udinski, currently the assistant offensive coordinator and assistant quarterbacks coach for the Minnesota Vikings. What makes this news particularly interesting is Udinski’s young age of just 28, which could potentially challenge the current record held by Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay, who became the NFL’s youngest head coach at 30 years old.
So, how did Udinski, at such a young age, rise to such a significant role in the NFL? His journey began with a college football career where he played one season at Davidson College as a tight end before switching to a defensive end position at Towson University for three years. After wrapping up his playing days in 2018, Udinski took his first step into coaching as a graduate assistant at Baylor University in 2019 under head coach Matt Rhule.
When Rhule made the jump to the NFL and took over as head coach of the Carolina Panthers in 2020, Udinski followed suit. He spent the first two seasons in Carolina as a coaching assistant before joining the Vikings in 2022. His contributions to the Vikings’ offense were notable, especially as the team helped quarterback Sam Darnold have an impressive season, throwing for 35 touchdowns, tying for the second-most in franchise history.
If the Seahawks decide to bring Udinski aboard, he would be in a prime position to work with a stellar group of offensive talent. This includes the likes of Pro Bowl quarterback Geno Smith, wide receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, as well as Jaxon Smith-Njigba and running back Kenneth Walker III. The opportunity to coach such a talented roster could set Udinski on a path similar to McVay’s, possibly leading to a head coaching position in his early thirties, provided he impresses during the interview process.
With all eyes on Seattle, fans will be waiting to see how this potential hire unfolds and what it could mean for the future of their offensive strategy.
