Tragic Loss at Gautier High School: 15-Year-Old Student Shemarion Miner Passes Away During Practice

Gautier, Miss. – A tragic incident unfolded at Gautier High School on Thursday when a 15-year-old student, identified as Shemarion Miner, collapsed during practice and later passed away. According to Police Chief David Bever, the medical emergency occurred around 3:40 p.m., just moments before the students were set to be dismissed. Witnesses reported that coaches immediately sprang into action, providing CPR and calling 911 for help.

Emergency responders from the police and fire departments arrived quickly, and Miner was transported by an Acadian ambulance to Ocean Springs Hospital. Sadly, despite the efforts of the medical teams, he did not survive. Chief Bever indicated that no foul play is suspected and it appears the incident was of a medical nature.

Shemarion Miner was a sophomore at Gautier High School and was known for playing the offensive line on the school’s football team. As news of his sudden passing spread, the Pascagoula-Gautier School District released a statement expressing their grief: “The Gautier High School and Pascagoula-Gautier School District community is processing an unimaginable tragedy. Our hearts are with the student’s family and friends. Mental health support is being provided at GHS for staff and students.”

Gautier’s Mayor, Casey Vaughan, also shared his condolences, urging the community to remember the happy memories of Miner. He called for prayers for the family, friends, classmates, and everyone affected by this tragic loss. He stated, “We will update this story as we learn more information.” As the community comes to terms with this devastating event, support services are being mobilized to help those in need.
