Cathedral Prep Head Coach Mike Krahe Resigns, Local High School Football Landscape Shifts

In Erie, a notable change is taking place in high school football as Mike Krahe has officially stepped down from his role as the head coach at Cathedral Prep. This announcement came on Thursday, marking the end of his tenure where he led the Ramblers to a respectable record of 22-11 over the past three seasons. Krahe took over coaching responsibilities from the long-serving Mike Mischler and has expressed his mixed emotions about leaving the program.

In a heartfelt letter addressed to parents, Krahe stated, “It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you of my decision to resign as the Head Football Coach at Cathedral Prep.” He described his time with the team as one of the most rewarding experiences in his career, emphasizing that his decision was not made lightly.

One of the major reasons behind Krahe’s resignation is the struggle to balance his coaching role with his local business commitments. He mentioned that, “Unfortunately, the school has been unable to find a position for me within the school organization that would allow me to commit fully to the role of Head Coach.” Krahe dedicated much of the past year attempting to find a solution that would allow him to maintain both responsibilities, but the time demands became overwhelming.

In addition to Cathedral Prep’s coaching situation, other schools in the area are also looking for new head coaches. The Northwestern School District posted a job opening after Bill Henwood ended his two-season run with the Wildcats, where the team recorded a 5-15 record. Similarly, Jason Wargo from Maplewood has stepped down after three seasons, with the Tigers finishing at 11-22 during his tenure. Wargo reflected on his time with the players, expressing gratitude for their dedication.

As these teams begin the search for new leadership, the local high school football scene is poised for changes that could reshape the coming seasons.
