In Chapel Hill, the excitement is brewing as Bill Belichick, the renowned coach, is making some significant moves as the head of the North Carolina Tar Heels football team. Even though many NFL teams, including some that once benefitted from Belichick’s expertise, are hoping to lure him back to the professional league, the 72-year-old coach is focused on strengthening his college squad.
As the 2025 season approaches, Belichick is currently in the process of assembling his coaching staff. Recently, reports have emerged indicating that he aims to recruit one of the top high school football coaches in the country—Billy Miller, the head coach of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Sources suggest that Miller is being targeted to leave his successful role at IMG to join the Tar Heels.
IMG Academy is recognized as one of the premier high school football programs, and Miller has been with the institution since 2014, serving in various capacities before becoming head coach in 2022. He has valuable experience under his belt, including a previous stint as a special teams assistant coach with Belichick during his tenure with the New England Patriots. Additionally, Miller has coached with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and contributed to the Rutgers program alongside Greg Schiano, a long-time acquaintance of Belichick.
If Miller accepts the position, he would join an uplifting coaching environment at the Tar Heels, working alongside familiar faces like Freddie Kitchens and Steve Belichick. With Belichick emphasizing a “strong NFL presence” in his coaching roster, the Tar Heels are looking to make a mark in NCAA football.
As Chapel Hill eagerly anticipates the upcoming season, it will be interesting to see how Belichick’s strategies and the addition of potential new staff will shape the football program.
