Sharon High School Football Player Makes Progress After Serious Injury

Sharon, MA – A local high school football player, Rohan Shukla, has begun to show signs of recovery following a serious brain injury sustained during a game on Thanksgiving. The sophomore collapsed on the sidelines while playing against Oliver Ames High School on November 28, prompting immediate medical attention.

After the incident, Shukla was quickly transported from the game to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, before being moved to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for advanced care. His condition was determined to be a subdural hematoma, which is a collection of blood between the skull and the brain. Unfortunately, by the time he underwent surgery to address the bleeding, doctors discovered that his brain had already suffered severe injuries.

Over the past month, Rohan’s family has kept the community updated on his progress through a GoFundMe page, which has successfully raised over $79,000 from nearly 1,000 donations. In a recent post, they shared that Rohan has been transferred to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital for continued recovery, marking a significant step forward in his journey. “Though Rohan is still in very early stages of regaining consciousness,” the update said, “it’s a significant milestone for him, and we are hoping for better days ahead.”

The family noted that his recovery is expected to be a long process. “This is going to be a prolonged in-patient recovery for Rohan,” they stated, urging continued support for his treatment. Rohan’s journey has garnered heartfelt support from the community, including a letter from Superintendent Peter J. Botelho and High School Principal Kristen Keenan offering their encouragement to the family during this difficult time.

As Rohan continues his recovery, the community remains hopeful for his progress and is committed to supporting him in any way possible.
