Tragedy Strikes New Year’s Eve in New Orleans: High School Football Star Injured, Friend Killed in Vehicle Attack

NEW ORLEANS – A tragic incident marred the New Year’s Eve celebrations in the heart of the city when a vehicle drove into a crowd on Canal and Bourbon streets, resulting in multiple injuries and loss of life. Among those injured is Ryan Quigley, a former high school football standout from Pennsylvania, known for his exceptional skills as a running back and defensive back.

Quigley was in New Orleans for the holiday, catching up with fellow Princeton graduate and football player Tiger Bech, who sadly lost his life in the attack. Reports state that Quigley is currently receiving treatment and is surrounded by family and friends who are supporting him during this difficult time.

A GoFundMe campaign launched to assist Quigley’s recovery has already raised nearly $80,000. The funds will go towards his medical expenses as well as helping Bech’s family with funeral costs. The campaign highlighted Quigley’s fighting spirit, stating, “Ryan is a fighter, and his loved ones are rallying around him as he faces this challenge.”

The Lansdale Catholic High School community, where Quigley graduated, has shown overwhelming support. A post on their Facebook page expressed pride in Quigley and offered prayers for his full recovery. “We are inspired by the ways in which his LC classmates are coming together to support his family during this difficult time,” the post read.

Reports confirm that as many as 15 people lost their lives when Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, drove his truck into the crowded street. Bech’s mother, Michelle, shared the devastating news that her son was struck by the vehicle while enjoying the festivities. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

This incident has left a community in mourning while highlighting the importance of support in times of crisis. As the New Orleans community comes together, many are hoping for healing and peace for both the injured and the families of those lost.
