Florida State University Faces Major Changes as 19 Players Enter Transfer Portal After Tough Football Season

Florida State University is in the spotlight as they navigate a busy transfer portal season following a challenging football year. The NCAA Transfer Portal’s 20-day winter window has officially closed for most programs across the nation, including FSU. As teams finalize their rosters, it may take some time for outgoing transfers to appear officially in the database.

As of Sunday morning, true freshman defensive end DD Holmes has entered the portal after a modest first season in Tallahassee. Holmes managed to see action in just one game, where he recorded a tackle in the Seminoles’ win against Charleston Southern while retaining his redshirt status. He was recruited as a four-star prospect in the 2024 class but faced tough competition in a deep defensive end lineup that included several standout players.

Despite being a promising prospect known for his size at 6-foot-6 and 255 pounds, Holmes only participated in 16 snaps on defense and spent most of the season working with the scout team. Although he appeared to fit well in the new 3-3-5 defensive scheme under defensive coordinator Tony White, the young athlete has decided to look for new opportunities.

Holmes is among a considerable number of players entering the transfer portal, as he is one of 19 scholarship players to make this decision following a disappointing 2-10 season. Other notable players leaving include redshirt senior wide receiver Deuce Spann, redshirt junior tight end Jackson West, and several more from various positions.

As Florida State looks to the future, they have already signed several promising recruits during the Early Signing Period, including four-star players like LaJesse Harrold and Tylon Lee. Additionally, they have brought in transfers like James Williams from Nebraska and Deante McCray from Western Kentucky, strengthening their roster as they aim for improvement in the upcoming season.

FSU fans will be eager to see how the changes unfold as the team rebuilds following a tumultuous year. Keep an eye on Florida State as they continue to adjust their lineup in pursuit of a winning season.
