Atlanta Hosts Thrilling Class 6A State Championship

Atlanta is buzzing tonight as the Carrollton Trojans (14-0) clash with the Grayson Rams (13-1) in the Class 6A state football championship game. The much-anticipated kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Eastern time at the iconic Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Leading the charge for Carrollton is Julian Lewis, a five-star quarterback who has already committed to play for Colorado. Throughout the season, he has been on fire, averaging over 46 points per game and tossing 46 touchdowns against only five interceptions. As of this game, Lewis has completed 237 of 311 passes for 3,465 yards.

Carrollton aims to capture its first state championship since 1998 and the eighth overall in school history. They come into this matchup ranked No. 5 in the national high school football rankings by Sports Illustrated.

Grayson, on the other hand, holds an impressive all-time record of 240-67 since opening in 2000 and has claimed three state titles. The Rams are currently riding high with 13 straight wins after a narrow loss to Collins Hill to kick off the season. Notably, the two teams have never faced each other before.

The game started with Grayson receiving the kickoff at their own 20-yard line. They quickly began to drive and scored the first touchdown of the game with a 17-yard catch from Alex Sanchez in the end zone, putting the Rams ahead 7-0 early on. Carrollton struggled on its first possession, only managing a three-and-out and leading to a Grayson field goal that extended their lead to 10-0.

However, the Trojans bounced back with Ryan Mosley catching a quick pass from Lewis for a 65-yard touchdown, narrowing the gap to 10-7. The teams exchanged touchdowns, ultimately leading to a tight score of 17-17 at halftime.

As the second half got going, Grayson took the lead again at 24-17, only for Carrollton to tie it back up at 24-24. The night was competitive, with standout performances from both sides; Grayson’s Elijah Miller established himself as a force, scoring three touchdowns by the night’s end.

In a dramatic fourth quarter, Grayson pulled away after a crucial interception by Vaughn Mitchom, setting up another Rams touchdown. When the game clock ran out, Grayson emerged victorious with a final score of 38-24, claiming their fourth state title and first since 2020.

As the night wraps up, the fans in Atlanta celebrate a thrilling game that showcased high school football at its finest.
