Stamford and Ganado Face Off in Class 2A Division I State Finals
Arlington, Texas – Excitement is building as Stamford prepares to play in its eighth state football championship game on Thursday morning. The Bulldogs have a storied history in Texas high school football, having claimed titles in 1955, 1956, 1958, 2004, 2012, and 2013. They were also runners-up in 2011 and previously held a 4A title in 1959, although it was later forfeited.
Stamford made its way to the state finals by defeating Hamilton with a score of 28-13, a tough match that was only secured in the final moments when running back Christain Duran found the end zone with just 1:32 left on the clock.
On the other side of the field, Ganado enters the finals with a remarkable run, having won 11 games in a row. The Indians have shown their dominance throughout the playoffs, winning convincingly in four out of five postseason games, with their only close call being a 14-6 victory over Refugio in the third round. Last week, they defeated Joaquin, the last No. 4 seed in the playoffs, with a score of 35-14.
Ganado’s quarterback, Bryce Ullman, played a vital role in the last game, running for one touchdown and throwing two scoring passes to Cain Hayden. This will be Ganado’s first appearance in the UIL final after falling in five previous semifinal matches, including last year’s contest against the eventual state champion Timpson.
Fans and spectators can look forward to live updates from the Class 2A-Division I state finals as Stamford and Ganado gear up for kick-off at 11 a.m. CT at AT&T Stadium. The anticipation builds as both teams will vie for the coveted title on the grand stage.
As excitement stirs up for the game, there are also opportunities to vote for the Texas Offensive and Defensive High School Football Players of the Week.
