Jayton and Oakwood to Clash in Class 1A Division II State Finals
Arlington, TX – The small town of Jayton is buzzing with excitement as the Jaybirds prepare to take the field in the Class 1A Division II state finals for the first time since 2006. The team has been on an impressive offensive run, showcasing their skills in the playoffs with a staggering 100-50 victory over Benjamin in the quarterfinals, followed by a dominant 90-48 win against Lamesa Klondike in the semifinals.
The Jaybirds, featuring eight players who also contributed to the school’s Class 1A basketball championship victory earlier this year, are carrying high hopes into this matchup. This football team’s last state championship came back in 1984 and 1985, and now they’re eager to add another title to their legacy.
In the semifinal game, standout player Bode Ham had an incredible performance, scoring 5 touchdowns. However, he did sustain a shoulder injury during the match, which could potentially impact his performance in the finals.
On the other side of the field, Oakwood is also riding a wave of momentum. After a rough start to their season with a 1-3 record, the Panthers have turned things around and now head into the finals on a seven-game winning streak. This will mark only their second appearance in a state title game, the first since 1991.
Football fans will be eagerly waiting to see how this showdown unfolds. The game is set to kick off at 11 a.m. CT on Wednesday, December 18, at AT&T Stadium. As Jayton and Oakwood prepare to face off, excitement fills the air, and supporters from both teams are getting ready to cheer on their squads. Stay tuned for updates as the game progresses!
