Mater Dei Concludes Undefeated Season with National Championship
Santa Ana, California – This past Saturday, Mater Dei High School capped off a remarkable season by claiming the High School Football America national championship. The Monarchs finished their campaign with an unblemished record of 13-0, defeating No. 25 De La Salle to win the California Open Division championship. This marks the fifth national title for Mater Dei since 2017, and many believe this year’s performance stands out as the strongest yet, with all wins coming against teams ranked in the Top 300.
As Mater Dei celebrated their national title, the hopes of the No. 2 Milton Eagles were dashed. However, Milton still has a chance to secure the title of the nation’s top public school if they can overcome No. 51 Langston Hughes in the upcoming Georgia 5A championship game on Tuesday.
The rankings also saw considerable movement after a significant weekend of high school football. In Texas, No. 4 Duncanville and No. 6 North Shore both faced losses in the 6A Division I state semifinals. North Crowley shocked Duncanville with a close 36-34 victory, leading to a ten-spot rise to No. 6 in the rankings. They will now face No. 18 Westlake for the 6A-I title, with Westlake climbing 14 spots after their impressive win over North Shore, finishing with a score of 35-10.
Additionally, Venice made a notable jump of seven spots to No. 4 after clinching the Florida 7A championship on Saturday, thanks to the Texas losses.
The latest rankings also note some changes due to forfeitures. Several teams in Florida, like Norland and Gaither, faced setbacks from arbitrary wins being nullified due to the use of ineligible players. As a result, the rankings continue to evolve ahead of the season’s final games.
This exciting season in high school football showcases the growing talent and competitive spirit across the nation, with teams striving for excellence as they head into the last stretch of the year.
