NFL Week 15 Recap: Major Highlights from the Weekend
This week’s NFL action brought plenty of excitement and surprises across various matchups. In New York, the Giants suffered another disappointing home defeat, this time at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens, with a final score of 35-14. This loss leaves the Giants with zero wins at home this season, as well as zero victories since Week 5. A tough season for the G-Men indeed.
The Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers faced each other in a rare encounter that saw no touchdowns scored. The Rams narrowly won 12-6, marking the first game this season without a single touchdown. Interestingly, Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp finished the game with no receptions, while the 49ers generated zero sacks — a rare showing for their defense.
On a possibly concerning note, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes left the game against the Cleveland Browns with an ankle injury. Fortunately, it was determined that his ankle isn’t broken, but he is now considered week-to-week. This situation is troubling for the Chiefs, who have two more games coming up in the next 11 days.
Another team struggling is the Miami Dolphins. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw a career-high four turnovers (three interceptions and a fumble) during a loss to the Texans, extinguishing any hope of a playoff run for Miami. Similarly, the Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears were mathematically eliminated from postseason contention after their losses.
Despite the struggles of some teams, Lamar Jackson of the Ravens shined, passing for five touchdown passes – his second such performance this season. Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills might have solidified Josh Allen‘s MVP candidacy following a high-scoring victory over the Detroit Lions, in which Allen threw and ran for multiple touchdowns, accounting for 430 total yards.
The Denver Broncos demonstrated impressive defensive play, forcing five turnovers and sealing a playoff-spot-clinching win against the Colts, highlighting their potential bid for a playoff run. In contrast, the Los Angeles Chargers struggled defensively, surrendering 40 points to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a disappointing showdown.
As for individual achievements, Alvin Kamara of the New Orleans Saints reached a significant milestone, becoming the fourth player in history to achieve 50 rushing touchdowns and 25 receiving touchdowns. In more rookie news, Titans rookie T’Vondre Sweat made headlines by returning a fumble 38 yards, setting a notable record for a player of his size.
With the regular season winding down, the next few weeks will be crucial for teams fighting for playoff positions. Fans can look forward to more intense matchups as the teams gear up for postseason implications.
