Fifth Straight State Title for Carl Albert in Dominating Championship Win
EDMOND — The Class 5A top-ranked Carl Albert Titans showcased their strength in high school football with a decisive 30-6 victory over the No. 4 Guthrie on Saturday night at Chad Richison Stadium. This win not only secured the championship title but also marked the Titans’ third consecutive state victory and their eighth in the last nine seasons.
Leading the charge was Devin Woodring, the senior quarterback, whose performance earned him the title of Player of the Game. Woodring completed 6 of 10 passes for 122 yards and threw for three touchdowns. Additionally, he added 26 rushing yards on eight carries, demonstrating his ability to control the game from start to finish. His outstanding play helped extend Carl Albert’s winning streak to an impressive 40 games.
The highlight of the night came in the fourth quarter when Woodring connected with senior receiver Todd James for a spectacular 57-yard touchdown. With just under 11 minutes remaining, James made a catch, escaped a tackle, and sprinted into the end zone, pushing the score to 30-6 in favor of Carl Albert.
The Titans showed a strong start with two early touchdowns from Woodring to senior receiver Trystan Haynes, who is also an OU signee. The first was a 44-yard touchdown, followed by a clever reverse shovel pass that resulted in another score. Kicker Ethan Spiwak added to the tally with a 27-yard field goal in the second quarter, while the defense smothered Guthrie’s offense, limiting them to just 35 yards throughout the game.
With this victory, Carl Albert now holds 19 football championships, tying with Ada for the most in Oklahoma state history. This win continued to solidify their reputation as a powerhouse in high school football.
