Los Angeles – High school football fans are in for an exciting weekend as the CIF Southern Section finals have been set. This year marks the seventh time since 2016 that Mater Dei will face off against St. John Bosco in the Division 1 final. Both teams displayed impressive performances in their semifinals, with Mater Dei defeating Corona Centennial 36-7 and St. John Bosco edging out Orange Lutheran with a close 20-17 victory.
Over in Division 2, Newbury Park is riding high with an unbeaten record of 13-0. They will take on Murrieta Valley, who won a thrilling overtime game against Oaks Christian 55-52. Newbury Park secured their finals spot by defeating Yorba Linda 20-14.
The championship matchups continue across the divisions. In Division 3, Simi Valley narrowly defeated Loyola 28-25 and will contest with Edison, who triumphed over Vista Murrieta 42-14. Division 4 will see Oxnard Pacifica facing St. Bonaventure, after Pacifica’s 28-16 win against Thousand Oaks.
Division 5 features an exciting clash between La Serna and Palos Verdes, following their respective victories. La Serna won against Summit 34-22, while Palos Verdes edged out Foothill 27-24. For the lower divisions, games are also shaping up nicely, with other teams such as Murrieta Mesa, Rio Hondo Prep, and Silverado all securing spots in their finals.
