West Virginia High School Football Playoffs Delayed Due to Legal Issues

GHENT, WV — This weekend’s high school football playoffs in West Virginia have been postponed due to ongoing legal disputes regarding standings and playoff seeding. An initial injunction filed by Point Pleasant High School led to a court ruling from a Wood County judge, which resulted in the reseeding of the AAA playoff bracket. As a result, teams were moved to new classifications, causing major shifts in the playoff lineup.

Under the new rankings, Point Pleasant, Tolsia, Hampshire, and Westside found themselves removed from the playoff picture. New teams such as Capital, St. Albans, Lincoln, and St. Marys have taken their spots in the playoffs. David Price, the Executive Director of the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission (WVSSAC), shared his disappointment regarding the situation. “We are extremely disappointed to not be having the playoffs this weekend,” Price said. “We understand the frustration from all of the parties involved, and we want nothing more than to put the focus back on the student-athletes and their pursuit of a championship. However, we must abide by the decisions of the courts and their timeline.”
