EUGENE, Ore. — In an exciting matchup on Saturday, Dillon Gabriel led the No. 1 Oregon Ducks to a convincing 39-18 victory over the Maryland Terrapins. The game was not just a win for Oregon; it also marked a historic achievement for Gabriel as he became the all-time leader in total touchdowns in FBS history.
This milestone was reached early in the second half when Gabriel connected with backup lineman Gernorris Wilson for a 3-yard touchdown pass. This scoring feat brought his career total to 179 total touchdowns, breaking the previous record of 175 touchdowns held by Case Keenum, who played at Houston from 2007 to 2011.
“Definitely Gernorris. What a way to score. Proud of him, and what an interesting way to do it,” Gabriel said after the game, acknowledging Wilson’s hard work leading up to the moment.
Gabriel had already matched Keenum’s record earlier in the game with a 9-yard touchdown pass to Terrance Ferguson, marking his 146th career passing touchdown and his 21st scoring pass of the season. He demonstrated his dual-threat ability by adding six rushing touchdowns to his season total as well.
In total, Gabriel finished the game with one more touchdown pass, bringing his career count to 180 touchdowns. Despite the record, he emphasized that personal achievements are not his main focus. “It’s the relationships, the people, Gernorris catching that touchdown. Those are the things I’ll remember, not necessarily the record book,” he pointed out, reflecting on the importance of teamwork and camaraderie.
Gabriel is also making a name for himself as a sixth-year transfer from Oklahoma, with a current tally of 59 career starts, just two shy of the NCAA record held by former Oregon quarterback Bo Nix.
