Charlotte Catholic High School Addresses Bullying Incidents Among Football Players

In Charlotte, a serious matter has come to light at Charlotte Catholic High School as the school begins to take action against members of its football team involved in bullying incidents. President Kurt Telford has confirmed that the school is investigating at least three reported incidents that took place in the boys’ locker room.

Parents were informed last week that the school responded to these reports after students stepped up to share their concerns. Telford stated, “Charlotte Catholic High School has a strict policy that prohibits bullying and intimidation of any kind and includes consequences for anyone involved in such behavior.” Immediate consequences for those involved have included expulsion, suspension, and removal from the football team.

While the investigation is ongoing, the school has already begun applying disciplinary measures. Telford highlighted the critical role of parents and students in helping maintain a safe school environment, expressing appreciation for their support in reporting troubling behavior.

Just last week, on October 18, the football team secured a decisive victory against Butler, winning 34-14, marking their fifth consecutive game win. With this victory, the Cougars earned the No. 1 playoff seed in the Southwestern 4A conference and clinched at least a share of the league title. It remains uncertain whether any players involved in the bullying actions participated in this game or faced further disciplinary measures afterward.

The football team, currently holding a record of (6-2, 5-0), will finish their regular season this Friday with a game against East Mecklenburg, who has a record of (1-7, 1-3). East Mecklenburg has suffered two consecutive losses heading into this matchup. Following Friday’s game, the Cougars are expected to take a break until the playoffs commence on November 15. However, it is noted that the N.C. High School Athletic Association may allow teams to schedule an additional game under special circumstances, as the season was extended to assist Western North Carolina teams impacted by Hurricane Helene.

As the situation unfolds, the Charlotte Catholic community remains focused on addressing and preventing bullying, ensuring that all students feel safe and supported.
