Williamsburg Rises Back to the Top of Class 3A Football Rankings

WILLIAMSBURG – In a thrilling display of team strength, the Williamsburg Raiders have reclaimed the top spot in Class 3A football rankings following a commanding 42-13 victory over Solon on Friday night. This impressive win, combined with an unexpected loss by the Algona Bulldogs to Humboldt, has propelled the Raiders back to the No. 1 position in the latest poll.

Currently boasting a record of 6-1, the Raiders have put together a strong comeback after losing to Cedar Rapids Xavier in Week 2. Since that game, Williamsburg has gone on a fantastic winning streak, securing five consecutive victories. During this stretch, the team has been on an offensive tear, averaging a remarkable 52.8 points per game.

As they look forward to the remaining two games of the regular season, the Raiders will face tough challenges on the road against Grinnell this week and then travel to Benton Community in Week 9. Both teams have solid records of 5-2, and Benton has climbed into the rankings this week at No. 9.

In the latest poll, Williamsburg earned four out of six first-place votes, while co-No. 2 Dubuque Wahlert and No. 5 Humboldt received one vote each. Wahlert shares the No. 2 position with Sergeant Bluff-Luton, both teams remaining unbeaten in 3A. The rankings are rounded out by Mount Vernon at No. 4, followed by Humboldt and Algona.

Across the other classes, things remain stable at the top. In Class 5A, West Des Moines Valley holds a narrow lead over West Des Moines Dowling. Bettendorf, the last unbeaten team in 5A, sits at No. 3, followed by Pleasant Valley and Ankeny Centennial. In Class 4A, Lewis Central continues to dominate, despite Pella taking away one of their first-place votes.

As the season approaches its conclusion, excitement grows for fans and teams alike. With close contests and surprising upsets defining the rankings, it promises to be an exciting cap to the regular season.
