Cincinnati High School Football Recap: Week 8 Highlights
CINCINNATI — The Friday night lights shone bright in the Tri-State area as high school football returned for Week 8 of the season. The WCPO 9 Friday Football Game of the Week featured an exciting clash between Batavia and New Richmond, with both teams eager for a win to stay competitive in the Southern Buckeye Athletic and Academic Conference’s American division. Batavia’s head coach Wayne Stacy emphasized the importance of the game earlier in the week, stating, “If we have any chance to win the conference title, we need to win Friday night.” And thankfully for Batavia fans, the Bulldogs did just that, delivering an impressive 38-0 shutout against New Richmond.
Meanwhile, the King of the Road Trophy remained with St. Xavier after they edged out La Salle in a nail-biter, finishing the game at 9-0. The score stood at just 3-0 until the final two minutes of the action.
In another Greater Miami Conference matchup, Lakota East showcased their offensive prowess by jumping ahead with a staggering five touchdowns before halftime, ultimately defeating Sycamore 56-12. The McNick Rockets also had a strong performance, putting up 35 points against Bishop Fenwick’s 7.
The Winton Woods Warriors proved their strength as a state title contender, narrowly defeating West Clermont 12-7. According to Joe Eitel, Winton Woods has unofficially secured a home playoff game in Division I, Region 4.
In Central Kentucky, Simon Kenton traveled down I-75 to take on Great Crossing in a thrilling shoot-out but fell short with a final score of 45-35. There were several impressive victories throughout the night; Bellevue dominated their river-town rival Dayton, winning 42-0 in the Battle for the Paddle. Newport Central Catholic’s Kaleb Cole had a standout performance, scoring multiple touchdowns in their decisive victory against Newport, finishing 35-7.
