Kansas City, Missouri – The Kansas City Chiefs have confirmed that wide receiver Rashee Rice will miss the rest of the 2024 season due to an injury to his LCL. This news comes after Rice saw Dr. Dan Cooper for evaluation following his injury during a Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Chargers on September 29. During the game, quarterback Patrick Mahomes accidentally collided with Rice, forcing him to leave on a cart.
According to reports, Rice is set to undergo surgery on Tuesday. If it’s determined that only his LCL is damaged and his ACL remains intact, he could be out for about three months. This puts his return at some point in 2025. Before his injury, Rice was leading the Chiefs with 24 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns, outpacing other receivers on the team by a substantial margin.
The Chiefs are already facing a tough situation as they gear up to play the New Orleans Saints tonight. Rice’s absence leaves a significant gap in their receiving corps, which is also missing Marquise Brown, currently on injured reserve. This means the team will look to others such as rookie Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson, Skyy Moore, Mecole Hardman, and veteran JuJu Smith-Schuster to step up and fill the void left by Rice.
In a bright spot for the team, both Smith-Schuster and running back Kareem Hunt had 100-yard games in their victory over the Saints, helping the Chiefs stay perfect with a 5-0 record this season.
In other injury news around the league, Houston Texans receiver Nico Collins is listed as week to week due to a hamstring injury suffered during their recent victory over the Buffalo Bills. Additionally, Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen confirmed that Anthony Richardson will remain the starting quarterback when healthy, despite strong play from Joe Flacco in his absence.
On a different note, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced they will relocate operations to New Orleans ahead of Hurricane Milton’s anticipated landfall.
In off-field news, New England Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers was arrested on assault and cocaine possession charges over the weekend, as confirmed by local police.
As fans eagerly await the next games, it is a reminder that the NFL season continues its unpredictable journey each week.
