Cincinnati High School Football Update: Exciting Games at the Midway Point

As we reach the midway point of the high school football regular season in Cincinnati, the excitement is palpable! This week featured an intense rivalry game that has kicked off the weekend right. Moeller faced off against their long-time rival St. Xavier, managing to extend their winning streak to five games with a close 45-37 victory. Both teams came out strong, combining for more points in the first half than their entire matches from last season. With Moeller leading 35-24 at halftime, they maintained their pressure throughout the game.

Moeller’s quarterback, Matt Ponatoski, showcased an impressive performance as he completed 18-of-25 passes for a remarkable 321 yards and threw six touchdowns, becoming Moeller’s all-time leader in career passing yards and touchdowns.

In another nailbiter, Elder opened strong with a 14-0 lead against St. Xavier (Louisville). The game took a turn when St. X managed to tie it up and even took the lead with a 2-point conversion. However, Elder’s strategy and a couple of favorable penalties allowed them to secure a field goal, winning the match 17-15.

Meanwhile, Covington Catholic turned their season around from an 0-2 start to a winning streak of three after defeating the previously undefeated Beechwood with a score of 49-28. Newport Wildcats also kept their undefeated record alive, narrowly overcoming Ludlow by stopping a two-point conversion attempt in the final seconds, ending with a score of 32-30.

Middletown had a tougher night, suffering their first defeat of the season at 51-7 against Lakota West. On the other hand, Cooper’s offense shined brightly in their matchup against Great Crossing, exploding in the second half for a commanding 62-36 win.

Anderson showcased their dominance in an easy cruise to victory over Kings with a final score of 41-0. Just down the road, McNicholas faced Purcell Marian and continued their winning ways with a solid 38-8 victory, maintaining their single loss from earlier in the season.

In a battle filled with turnovers, Mount Healthy emerged victorious against Bishop Fenwick, ending the game 35-10. Lastly, Cincinnati Country Day’s quarterback, Elija Guttman, had an outstanding performance, throwing for 205 yards and four touchdowns in a strong showing against Clermont Northeastern, winning 55-27.

As the season progresses, it’s clear that the competition is heating up. Fans are eagerly watching to see how the season will unfold!
