Former NFL Stars Rally Behind Kamala Harris and Tim Walz for 2024 Presidential Election

Washington, D.C. – In an exciting political announcement, over 50 former football players and coaches, including iconic figures from the NFL, have publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz for the upcoming 2024 U.S. presidential election. This significant backing includes 10 Pro Football Hall of Famers, two Super Bowl champions, and pioneers who were among the first Black athletes and coaches to break through racial barriers in professional football.

The group, which represents 25 historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), made their endorsement clear in a letter where they praised Harris’s integrity and commitment to justice. They expressed confidence in her ability to serve the interests of all Americans. Among the notable signers are Art Shell, the NFL’s first Black coach, and Richard Dent, former Super Bowl MVP and Hall of Famer.

This announcement coincides with National Black Voter Day, a campaign focused on motivating Black Americans to register to vote by upcoming deadlines in November. The initiative is supported by Black Entertainment Television and partners with various civic organizations such as the NAACP.

Recent polling indicates that while around 25% of young African American men under 50 may lean towards former President Donald Trump, a significant 50% support Harris. During a recent event with the National Association of Black Journalists, Harris acknowledged the importance of reaching out to Black men, stating, “I’m working to earn the vote, not assuming I’m going to have it because I am Black.”

Harris, a graduate of Howard University, has expressed pride in her HBCU background and highlighted the current administration’s investments in these institutions. She attended a recent sporting event supporting her alma mater, demonstrating her ongoing connection to athletics and community.
