This week, fans from Seattle to Spokane tuned in to see some thrilling moments in the Washington high school football season. With some spectacular plays taking center stage, the competition is heating up as teams battle it out in the early weeks of the season. As we look back at last week’s games, it’s clear that special teams made a big impact with exciting plays across the board.

Among the standout moments, a nail-biting finish occurred in a game that saw Oak Harbor edge out Ferndale by a very close margin. After dominating possession in the final six minutes, Oak Harbor’s Wyatt Cardon kicked a 21-yard field goal with just one second left on the clock, sealing the win for the underdogs.

Another exciting play happened at O’Dea where David Schwerzel continued to impress from his defensive end position, recovering a fumble and scoring in the end zone against Rainier Beach. Meanwhile, Max Jones from Bellevue was a force to be reckoned with, finishing with 247 rushing yards and a crucial 78-yard touchdown that helped secure a 31-21 victory over Lake Stevens.

Nooksack Valley also showcased their strengths with an incredible play. Evan Brown threw a swing pass to Cole Coppinger who sprinted 80 yards down the sideline for a touchdown against Renton. Similarly, Chiawana kicked off their game with a bang, scoring just 13 seconds into the match with a defensive touchdown from Taytan Cissne.

In a dominant display, Kelso’s Aden Mintonye had a standout performance, scoring two impressive touchdowns in just one quarter against River Ridge. In a more dramatic finish, Arlington pulled off an exciting comeback as Leyton Martin found Jake Willis in the end zone, followed by a conversion to Eli Rae that sealed a 50-49 win over Bothell.

Finally, the top play of the week came from Skyview who orchestrated a remarkable comeback from a 17-point deficit. In the closing seconds, Doogie Poindexter threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Gavin Packer, clinching a thrilling 21-17 win over Graham-Kapowsin.
