Nebraska High School Football: Week 1 Wrap-Up
This week, high school football kicked off in Nebraska, and it didn’t disappoint. Several players stood out with impressive performances across various teams, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting season.
Rushing Leaders
Morgan from Omaha Bryan led the way with 168 rushing yards on just 18 attempts, scoring one touchdown. Close behind was Wheeler from Grand Island, who rushed for 160 yards with two touchdowns. The competition was fierce; players such as Shanahan from Elkhorn South rushed for 156 yards, while Jenkins from Omaha Westside gained 144 yards, showcasing their skills throughout the matchups.
Passing Highlights
On the passing front, Semm from Grand Island had an exceptional game, completing 30 of 45 passes for 319 yards and one touchdown. Thomalla at Millard South also shone, throwing for 294 yards and one touchdown. Most notably, Newsome from Omaha Central lit up the scoreboard with 251 yards and three touchdown passes, leading his team to victory.
Receiving Standouts
On the receiving end, Warren from Grand Island caught 10 passes for an impressive 175 yards and one touchdown. Streich from Norfolk also had a great game with 137 yards on seven receptions, contributing two touchdowns in his impressive performance.
Scoring and Defense
Scoring has been a theme this week, with Voichoskie from Columbus standing out with four touchdowns, bringing in a total of 24 points for his team. Defensive plays were strong as well, with Skiff from Norfolk making an exceptional 22 tackles, showcasing dedication on the field.
