Minneapolis High School Football Season Heats Up with New Top 20 Rankings

In Minneapolis, excitement is building as the high school football season picks up steam with the release of the newly established Top 20 rankings. This initiative aims to recognize the best teams in the state, regardless of their size. The challenge lies in balancing the representation of large schools and smaller institutions, as numbers play a significant role in the game of football.

The rankings reflect the difficulty for smaller schools to compete against larger ones, particularly when it comes to maintaining a deep roster. The Minnesota State High School League divides teams into seven classes, with some schools having as many as 3,000 students in Class 6A, while others participate in Nine-Person football programs. The difference in size influences the level of competition and the overall talent pool available to each team.
