Thrilling Openings Mark the Start of the 2024 TSSAA High School Football Season in Nashville

This past Friday night in Nashville, football fans kicked off the much-anticipated 2024 TSSAA high school football season. The night was full of excitement and dramatic finishes, with several thrilling matchups capturing the attention of spectators across the region.

One of the headline games featured Nashville Christian taking on Davidson Academy, showcasing star quarterback Jared Curtis, who has already committed to Georgia. But the drama didn’t stop there, as many other teams were fighting for victory in close contests.

A notable moment of the night occurred when Franklin managed to transform a bobbled PAT snap into a two-point conversion, securing an overtime victory over Centennial. This marked a memorable first win for coach Josh Adkins in his debut.

In another nail-biter, Nolensville’s JD Kuhlman kicked a last-second 24-yard field goal to snatch a 24-21 win against Rockvale. Rockvale had made a valiant comeback to tie the game with just under two minutes left on the clock.

The game of the night undoubtedly went to MBA, who drove down the field to set up a game-winning 54-yard field goal by junior kicker Ronit Chandra with only 12 seconds remaining, leading to a 20-18 victory over Pearl Cohn. This loss was Pearl Cohn’s first since the 2022 state championship.

Brentwood also made headlines, overcoming a 14-3 deficit against Blackman with 21 unanswered points, including a stunning 98-yard interception return touchdown by Jackson Allen to seal the game 24-14.

On the non-region front, Ravenwood came away with a solid 27-17 victory over Alcoa, avenging last year’s defeat and setting a positive tone for the season ahead.

As the dust settles from opening night, teams will look to maintain momentum as they gear up for more action in the coming weeks. The excitement and competition are just getting started in Tennessee’s high school football scene.
