Draft Reaction: Miami selects OT Jonathan Martin
The Miami Dolphins grabbed Jonathan Martin out of Stanford to be the long term replacement for Vernon Carey at right tackle in the wake of Marc Colombo’s retirement.
The sense here from where I sit is that the Dolphins sensed that the run on offensive tackles was beginning when the Browns selected Mitchell Schwartz. That has yet to pan out but it’s hard to fault the Dolphins logic.
The Dolphins have the unenviable task of trying to rebuild an entire offense in the image of head coach Joe Philbin. Getting the quarterback (Ryan Tannehill) is easy, but where do you go from there? They had a huge need on the offensive line and Martin handles that need. However, was he the best player available? Maybe not.
The Dolphins’ draft is going to be remembered for the Tannehill pick, but Martin has an outside chance to be the best player taken by Miami in this draft.
